We are in the process of buying a scythe for micro-managing some areas of our wildflower meadows in Chesham, and hope to run a Scything training course in 2023
Hi Trevor, we could recommend this company to deliver great training courses; https://joyofscything.uk/
If you would like to share the cost with other groups maybe you could advertise on the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/bbowtcommunitynetwork
Great ideas were shared at the Community Network Zoom on 5th October:
- Use a picture of a hedgehog/newt/red kite etc and ask “Have you seen this species?” to encourage people to contact you and get involved
- Contact the scything society to see if they would know of local scythers who could join you
- Break down help which is needed into specific tasks e.g. tool storage or social media posts
- Record species with inaturalist and irecord https://irecord.org.uk/linking-inaturalist
OBS identify is a good species identification app https://observation.org/apps/obsidentify
- A table with sign-up sheet at local markets, fairs, fetes and libraries has been successful
- Family friendly events are popular e.g. Easter egg hunts, art displays, planting days, sponsorship schemes, festivals
- Creating a social seating space within your project area encourages engagement
